Lee Point Golf Club
Lee Point Village Resort

Darwin, Northern Territory // 2024 - Present // Commercial Sports, Recreation & Hospitality

The Lee Point Golf Precinct is a visionary project that integrates sport, recreation, and environmental conservation within a highly sensitive ecological landscape. Approved unanimously by the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics (DIPL), the project has been recognised for its innovation, collaboration, and long-term sustainability focus, delivering a world-class golfing destination while preserving the unique biodiversity of Lee Point.

The comprehensive masterplan balances the needs of a premier golfing facility with the ecological and environmental sensitivities of the site.

The development includes:

  • A 12-hole championship golf course, with an option to expand to 18 holes

  • Driving range to support player development and practice facilities

  • Mini golf and children’s play area, catering to a broad demographic

A Golf Club Facility, incorporating:

  • Pro-shop

  • Function centre

  • Bar and restaurant

  • Kitchen and potential gaming facilities (TBC)

  • Dedicated locker and change room areas for members and players

  • Separate cart storage facilities

  • Car parking and new boulevard entrance from Lee Point Road, improving accessibility

  • Site maintenance areas to ensure long-term upkeep and management

Bounded by nature reserves on three sides, the site is home to several significant and endangered species, requiring a highly sensitive and environmentally responsive design approach.

Key ecological considerations include:

  • Sub-tropical rainforest areas, with the presence of two identified endangered species:

  • Gouldian Finch – Recognised by Environmental Minister Tanya Plibersek (2023) as a protected species within Lee Point

  • Black-footed Tree Rat

  • Migratory birds that rely on the site’s natural habitat for seasonal movement

  • Coastal environmental challenges, including light pollution management to prevent disorientation of sea turtles and coastal bird species

In addition to environmental sensitivities, the project navigates complex site constraints, including:

  • Water scarcity and site-wide water management challenges

  • Pressure from new residential developments (DHA), requiring careful integration of land use.

Through innovation in planning and design, the Lee Point Golf Precinct achieves a harmonious balance between recreational excellence and environmental stewardship.

The masterplan prioritises:

  • Sustainable water management strategies, ensuring long-term resource efficiency

  • Biodiversity conservation, integrating wildlife corridors and habitat protection zones

  • Low-impact lighting solutions, mitigating disruption to migratory birds and sea turtles

  • Resilient coastal planning, addressing the environmental pressures of the surrounding landscape

  • Delivering long-term social, economic, and environmental value

By integrating sustainable practices with world-class golf and community facilities, the Lee Point Golf Precinct sets a new benchmark for environmentally responsible recreational development. Recognised for its forward-thinking approach, this project is a model of how sport, tourism, and conservation can coexist, ensuring long-term benefits for both the community and the natural environment.
